Role Purpose:

To diagnose and repair complex automotive issues and perform routine maintenance tasks on heavy Construction machinery.

Major Accountabilities:

Primary and Secondary duties:

Technical:
  • Fault diagnosis and repair
  • Keep up to date with technical information – available in Technical Service Bulletins and workshop manuals specifically in the areas of electrical and hydraulics
  • Inform the Service Manager Internal/Service Manager External of any additional work requirements
  • Instruct Apprentices on the correct trade practices and ensure a wide range of learning is made available to them
  • Ensuring that seat and floor protector covers are utilized when necessary
  • Ensuring the machine is kept clean during and after repairs
  • Ensuring that uniforms are maintained in a clean and tidy manner at all times
  • Ensure that tools of trade and special tools are maintained and calibrated
  • Maintain the company vehicle if supplied in a clean and tidy manner at all times, and the services at the required intervals are performed.
  • Report on job cards clearly and concisely
  • Report any quality related problems or customer feedback to the Service Manager so the appropriate course of action can be taken
  • Maintaining a clean workplace and present a clean and professional image
  • Contribute to workshop meetings
  • Ensure correct tagging when dealing with warranty repairs
  • Adhering to correct procedures when ordering spare parts
  • Any adhoc requirements as directed by the business

  • Have regard to the health and safety of themselves and others in the workplace
  • Utilizing the protective equipment provided
  • Reporting conditions which appear to be unsafe or unhealthy
  • Adhering the company procedures for securing a healthy and safe place of work
  • Complying with fatigue management codes of practice
  • Assisting in the investigation of any accident with the objective of introducing measures to prevent recurrence

Minimum Qualifications, Skills, Experience and Language(s):


Essential:
  • 3 years’ work experience as a Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic
Desirable:
  • 1 years’ experience working in the Construction industry
  • Experience working on Construction equipment.
Essential:
  • Certificate III in Automotive Construction (or equivalent)
  • Driver’s license
Desirable:
  • Forklift ticket
  • Rigid Truck License
Essential:
  • Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read/interpret OEM manuals
  • Proficiency with electronic diagnostic equipment
Preferred:
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulics and auto-electrics
  • Basic computer skills
